TITLE

HCU40 failure

DETAILS OF INCIDENT

As the Getinge HCU40 heater cooler was being cleaned, the care support worker noticed a popping sound, sparks and the smell of burning coming from the base of the heater cooler. He immediately stopped refilling the machine with water, turned off the power and ensured that no fire was taking hold within the machine. Cleaning was then ceased.

The company was contacted. Datix completed. HCU40 taken out of service and was to be repaired the following week.
